HOWLING FOR CHANGE

Am I the only one who has heard all the howling for change-change in the way we worship, change in our relationship with the denominational world, change in the way we approach biblical hermeneutics, change in how one obtains salvation and change in how we address the Almighty? Now, supposedly, proponents say that these changes are for the better, formulated to improve the LORD'S church in both its membership and its practices.

However, when someone seeks a change that goes beyond the boundaries of God' Holy Writ, then it is not for our good and is, in fact, condemned (I John 3:4). Those who find themselves supporting such change will one day find themselves answering that pointed question, "Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say" (Luke 6:46)? Friends, unless they change back to the will of God (Jer. 3:6-22), they will not enter into that heavenly home (Matt. 7:21-29) .

Beloved, is there or has there ever been a change that is for our betterment? Actually, the answer to this question is YES! When man turns from darkness to light, from Satan to God, he is implementing a change which is for the better.

However, only when changes stay within the confines of God's Word are they for the better. For those who have been calling for change and for those who are listening with naive ears—remember that in order to please God, you must have faith which can only come from hearing the Word of God (Heb. 11:6; Rom. 10:17). Therefore, one should not call for change that would go beyond the faith by either subtracting or adding to it, for then it is nothing more than walking by sight rather than by faith (2 Cor. 5:7). And it is this type of mentality that will lead one to an eternal home that burns with fire and brimstone (Matt. 25:31-46). Instead of asking for change simply for change sake, we need to ask ourselves, "Is this proposed change still within the confines of God's Word?" If it is not, then avoid it. If the change stays within the boundaries then utilize it, for only then would it be an authorized change.
