A History Lesson

"The people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel," but "…there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor the works which he had done for Israel" (Judges 2:7,10). Does this not portray many in the church today? Over and over again, we can see how the Israelites would fall away from God after a period of being faithful. They continually fell into apostasy, and likewise, a number in the church find themselves following the exact same pattern. Why have we allowed ourselves to repeat this detrimental cycle of history? Well, there can be a number of reasons as to why the children of God fall into apostasy:

A Lack of Belief – Hebrews 3:12; 4:11
A Lack of Spiritual Maturity – Hebrews 5:12-14
A Lack of Obedience to God's Will – Judges 21:25
A Lack of Testing The Doctrines of Men – I John 4:1
A Lack of Physical Contentment – I Timothy 4:3-4
A Lack of Separation from the World – Romans 12:1-2 A Lack of Knowledge – Hosea 4:6
A Lack of Humility – I Corinthians 10:12
A Lack of Conviction – Matthew 26:69-75; 10:33
A Lack of True Love – John 14:15

Beloved, the body of Christ needs to learn the valuable lessons history has to offer (Romans 15:4). Perhaps by recognizing some of the reasons why God's people fell into apostasy, we can better strengthen the ranks against such attacks and stand bold in His Word (I Corinthians 15:58). May the Lord help us not to repeat history!

Thank You
To our Christian family at Eisenhower,
Nick and I would like to try to express our thanks for the prayers and support during the last year on his father's behalf. Prayer works and he is continuing to improve on a daily basis. God saw fit to bless his Daddy with improving health as we were finding out about Nick's lung cancer. As we have been dealing with Nick's personal health trials; you have been there with open arms and unconditional love and support. You are the best support group a couple could wish for in time of need. The outpouring of prayers, love and support prior to Nick's surgery, the day of his surgery, and during his recovery has been phenomenal. We only hope and pray we can do the same for you some day.
In Christian love, Myndi and Nick Smith
