Can You Recognize the Imposter?

It is my understanding that those who work for the United States Treasury Department have the responsibility for not only making various denominational bills and coinage for our economic institutions, but they also have the responsibility for identifying and marking any and all counterfeit bills which pass through the treasury department. Although it would be almost impossible for them to know all the unique styles and techniques of each and every counterfeiter, it is interesting to know that their job has been made easier by simply knowing one thing – the characteristics which make up the original plates held by the Treasury Department. Friends, by simply having a thorough knowledge of these original plates it would allow the inspectors to not only look for those bills which differ from the standard set by the United States, but it would also allow them to make a proper judgment concerning any and all counterfeit bills.

What I find interesting about this whole ordeal is the concept which we find being used above can also be used in the realm of religion. One does not need be an expert in all of the thousands, upon thousands of erroneous doctrines found in the world in order to recognize a true imposter. One need only be familiar with the true characteristics of the Word of God in order to truly understand when a falsehood is being heralded. It is not necessary to fully understand the totality of an erroneous doctrine before it is seen for what it truly is. Paul instructed Timothy to take part in no man's sin, but to keep himself pure in the doctrine of Christ (I Tim. 5:22).

Remember the words of the apostle John, "Whosoever transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds" (II John 1:9-11).
