Psalm 59-Greatness of God
The 59th Psalm is a prayer to God to protect David from King Saul and his men as they try to pursue and kill David. David pleads for deliverance and for God's justice. David declared that they are like dogs growling at him and howling when they are not satisfied. The enemies were not able to bring David down because his trust was in God.
In the final two verses of this Psalm, David praises God for His protection and deliverance:
"I will sing of Your Power" ~ God is all powerful (Omnipotent). He created this world and sustains this world. He has power over nations of the earth. He has power over all men. He has power over Satan. He also has power over our lives. We must submit to His power and obey Him so
that He will save us.
"I will sing aloud of Your mercy" ~ God is merciful. He loved us so much that He sent His only begotten son to die for our sins so that we can have life everlasting. Certainly we realize that all have sinned and are not worthy of a relationship with God. However, because of His tender mercy and love, He has made provisions to bring us back into His arms.
"You have been my defense and refuge in the day of trouble" ~ God is the protector and provider for His people. He has promised that if we will seek Him first, that He will provide the things we need in this life. He has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He loves us, provides for us and protects us in our lives when we follow Him.
"To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises- On my own, I will fall. On my own, I can never be good enough. On my own, I will never be victorious. But there is good news, and it has nothing to do with my car insurance. God is our strength. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Through our faith, He has provided us victory that overcomes the world.
Life is hard and there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Yet, we shouldn't lie around and complain and cry about our hardships. Instead, let's get up and sing praises to God who is our power, mercy, defense, refuge and strength. Our God is an Awesome God!
