They Asked Not at the Mouth of the LORD

Do you remember the Gibeonites? If not, they were the inhabitants of Canaan who were accepted under false pretenses by Joshua and Israel (Joshua 9:3-21). This blunder would prove to be a thorn in the side of God's people. And yet, when considering the faithfulness of Joshua, one would start to wonder how this could have ever happened. Friends, thankfully God has not left us in the dark as we seek an answer to this quandary, for we are told that the men of Israel "asked not at the mouth of the LORD" (Joshua 9:14).

Beloved, it is vital that we do not repeat history, because if we do we too will experience our own thorn riveted side. However, this warning might be a little too late, for numerous spiritual Gibeonites have infiltrated the church of our Lord. They have "crept in unawares" (Jude 1:4) and have been allowed to profess their doctrines, like unity in diversity, all grace and no law, premillenialism, and theistic evolution just to mention a few, without ever being questioned (I John 4:1).

Friends, the time to say "enough is enough" is now. Now is the time for all of us to demand that we get back to what has come from the mouth of God (II Tim. 3:16-17). Now is the time to implement the basics of "proving all things" and holding fast to "that which is good" (I Thess. 5:21). Now is the time that the servants of God stop following these spiritually blind individuals which lead others into the ditches of apostasy (Matt. 15:13-14). The only way to halt these inroads of falsehood in the body of Christ is for us to start asking "at the mouth of the LORD." But will we? That is yet to be proven!
