Rejection
The mere mention of this word can send chills up and down one's spine. This simple but stern term in our English language seems to have the most fascinating effect on people. The idea of being rejected by a loved one is one that most people never want to think about, but surprisingly, most never think twice if they reject someone else, even when that someone is God.
This was the case with Saul as recorded in 1 Samuel 15:1-11. In this text, we find the Lord instructing Saul to "go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not: but slay both men and women, infant and suckling, ox, and sheep, camel and ass" (1 Sam. 15:3). However, Saul disobeyed this instruction for "Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly" (1 Sam. 15:9).
This act of disobedience by Saul was nothing more than rejecting the commandment of God and because of such an act, Saul too would be rejected by God. "And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: For thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel" (1 Sam. 15:26). Saul, through his unholy act, not only lost his reign as king, but he also placed his soul in jeopardy (Jn. 5:28-29).
We can see by this example and the punishment which was delivered by God that we should never reject the commandments which God has delivered to men. Christ came to this earth to fulfill the commandments of the Father, giving us an example to follow which leads unto that Heavenly home; however, to follow such a path takes a willful desire to carry out God's will. If we were to reject any portion, we are in all reality, rejecting the entirety of God's will. Remember, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (Jn. 12:48).
