Will We Be Ready?

In just a few short weeks, Eisenhower will be holding its Fall Gospel Meeting. Flyers have been sent, friends and family have been invited, and all of our speakers have spent an enormous amount of time, energy and effort so as to prepare lessons that are clear and simplistic. Though the time which is spent on behalf of each speaker is a must for a prosperous meeting, there still remains the question as to what you and I can do to help make this effort successful. Friends, with that said there are specific challenges found within such an endeavor and the success of our meeting will be seen in how we handle such challenges. What challenges will we face during our meeting?

First, our meeting will challenge our faith concerning the power of the gospel. Without being too candid, do we all truly believe that the gospel has the power to save the souls of men (Rom. 1:16; James 1:22)? Are we convinced that the gospel can change the lives of men? Only by allowing the gospel to change our lives can we manifest to others our confidence in His power.

Second, our meeting will challenge every member's work ethic. I'm sure that you would agree, that nothing will succeed without work (I Cor. 15:58). Too many have allowed themselves to be lulled into thinking that a gospel meeting can be successful by simply running a few ads in the local newspaper or by making a few flyers and sending them out to local congregations. But is that true success? Like our Lord, our mission is to seek and save those who are lost (Luke 19:10), thus it is vital that we invite all who are alienated from God so they too have the opportunity to obtain the salvation found in Christ Jesus.

Third, our meeting will challenge our own interests. That is, it will show where our hearts truly abide. If a person has no interest in the gospel of Christ, how can one proclaim to be Christ-like and yet refuse to feast on the very words of the Lord Himself? Remember, "for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matt. 6:21). Lastly, our meeting will be a challenge to the devil. Beloved, too many have allowed the devil to have his way in their lives far too often. However, by attending this endeavor, it will permit all of us to stand tall and firm for the cause of Christ and say to Satan, "the fight is on" (Eph 6:12-20).

As announced, we are planning to attend the Granbury Church of Christ Bible Search on November 16th and 17th in Cleburne, TX. We need to register with them and give them a head count of those planning to attend. If you think you might be able to attend please let Steve Horton or the office staff know as soon as possible.

FYI
We will begin having Wednesday morning adult Bible classes on October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Steve Horton will be teaching the class.
Just a reminder, if you would like to contribute to the Jim Reyna's medical fund, you may use the special contribution envelopes on the table in the east foyer and place it in the tape order box or you can give your donations to the office staff or the elders. We will try to send whatever we have collected on September 17th. We have collected $110.00 so far.
For the fall quarter, Allen's Sunday morning sermons will be focusing on the book of Luke. Also, upon completion of the study of the book of James, his Sunday morning Bible classes will also focus on the book of Luke.
In a recent survey done by George Barna, it has been noted that 78% of visitors loved being greeted by the individuals who sat around them. With this in mind, think of how this is true of us when we are visitors. Matthew 7:12 says, "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." Members, let's be sure to greet our visitors with the enthusiasm that expresses our joy of having them worship with us.

Congratulations
